Having people rank items
by numbers of stars hasn't worked as planned.
It seems like a good idea, but... -- People may not bother to rank anything as middling or so-so. -- What results can be a system of hard thumbs-up or thumbs-down votes. -- Adding a thumbs-down vote simply increases opportunities for manipulation and gaming. -- All the other drawbacks of voting are still present.
